Micro-political Leadership
Principals will build systems and relationships that utilize the staff ’s diversity, encourage constructive ideological conflict in order to leverage staff expertise, power and influence in order to realize the school’s vision for success. The principal will also creatively employ an awareness of staff ’s professional needs, issues, and interests to build cohesion and to facilitate distributed governance and shared decision making.

This year, I attended the Durham Public Schools' Assistant Principal Leadership Academy. These monthly meetings were were led by Dr. Stacy Stewart, the Assistant Superintendent for Elementary schools. Through this experience I was grouped with a team of Assistant Principals currently serving in Durham Public Schools to complete a 90 day entry plan. We reviewed the standards in great detail through current principals serving as guest speakers, presentations on best practices for each standard, Human Resource support, and a host of professional development. Each of these learning experiences provided me great networking opportunities with leaders within the district.
This document indicates when I attend staff meetings, district training, and any recommended training while serving as a principal resident at Riverside High School. This document outlines my daily activities and communication skills needed to communicate with various committees, district leaders, parents, and a host of educators that influence our student’s daily learning experiences.
